Recall for e-cargo bikes Troy and Vogue Journey
Europe Cycle Company (ECC), manufacturer and distributor of e-cargo bikes, is carrying out a recall on its electric cargo bikes Troy and Vogue Journey and has implemented a temporary sales suspension on all its e-cargo bikes. Owners of the Troy and Vogue Journey e-cargo bikes are urged to register via the website www.bakfietscheck.com so that improvements can be made.
An audit of ECC's notification registration system revealed that there have been a few instances of frame breakage in both models over the years. Even though the involved numbers are limited and the reason of these reported breakages is not always clear, we are now proactively reaching out to the owners of these e-cargo bikes to register their Troy and Vogue Journey e-cargo bikes via the aforementioned website to make adjust the frame to prevent breakage. In addition, the Vogue Journey is subject to additional improvements that must be implemented due to other identified defects. This includes the possibility of the gas spring locking and, in the case of a specific batch, the possibility of breakage of the seat post.
Transparent
ECC has shared its information on consumer and dealer complaints and reports with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) in full transparency over the past six months. ECC, in consultation with NVWA, decided to initiate a recall. In addition, NVWA indicated that the technical information needed to be supplemented. Following this, ECC immediately initiated actions towards dealers and now also consumers.
ECC posted an official safety warning on www.voguebike.com/troy and www.voguebike.com/journey this afternoon. In this warning, the company informs consumers about the defects found and the improvements that need to be made. The safety warning urges owners not to use the e-cargo bike until the improvements have been carried out. The owners can register the e-cargo bike via the specially created website www.bakfietscheck.com. After that, they will be contacted for an appointment during which improvements will be made where necessary, such as a reinforcement of the frame and for the Vogue Journey, in some cases the seat post and/or the gas spring will be replaced.
Sale suspension due to technical documentation
In addition, there is currently a temporary suspension of sales for all Vogue e-cargo bikes after it has been determined that the technical files of some Vogue e-cargo bikes unfortunately appear to have shortcomings. As a result, it is not legally allowed to bring these e-cargo bikes to the market. That is why we have decided to temporarily suspend the sale of all Vogue e-cargo bikes until these files are complete.
"We understand that this is an unfortunate situation that causes inconvenience. We sincerely apologize for that. We are doing everything we can to make the necessary improvements as soon as possible. The health and safety of the users and their children is our top priority. Therefore, we do not recognize ourselves in the suggestion that we deliberately withheld information. We shared everything with the NVWA, as they acknowledged in their statement," said Ahmet Yasar, Managing Director ECC
ECC is in close contact with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) about this safety alert, and the NVWA will also report it via its website at www.nvwa.nl.
